Our first hit-and-run victim of the month: This poor female 3-month-old puppy was brought to the shelter by some kind people who saw this puppy on the streets while they were working- distributing electrical equipment. Her body had been run over by a car more than a week ago. She was taken to @alburaq and received x-rays. She has multiple fractures in her legs, pelvis and a dislocated shoulder. She was hospitalized for a day receiving antibiotics and painkiller. Puppy had no feeling in her leg, which was severely infected. An Association sponsored her, and she was transferred to a different vet. We were soon informed that her leg would be amputated.
The surgery was a success, and she is now recovering in a foster home.
Thank you to the workers who first brought this pup to us; Al Buraq Clinic; and the Association for their efforts in rescuing her.
__________________________________________________________________________________Our second hit-and-run victim of the month: This young puppy was hit by a car in the night and left on the street. Georgina Shomaly saw him and contacted Diana, who told her to take him somewhere safe near her house until she could find an open clinic. The only close vet was Dr. Ahmad Abu Dayyeh, who came back to his clinic at 11 pm especially, and administered emergency care.
The next day puppy was sent to AlBuraq. There, he received x-rays which showed fractures in his pelvis and front leg. He then spent some time at the shelter until we found an Association to sponsor him where he is receiving ongoing treatment.
Thank you to Dr. Ahmad Abu Dayyeh for re-opening his clinic so late at night; Georgina Shomaly; Al Buraq clinic and the Association.

This is our 3rd hit-and-run victim for the month of January. *RIP* To local drivers, please be more mindful of the city’s stray dog and cat population when out on the road.
Late last night, Diana received a message about a 2-3-month-old puppy that had been moved to the side of the road by somebody after being hit by a car. Diana sent our worker, Amjad, with a taxi to fetch the puppy and take him to Al Buraq.
The poor little thing was suffering from heavy bleeding, his front leg had been dislocated, and his back leg was also injured. He was also very dirty as where he had been placed for full of sand and garbage.
The vet sedated puppy to clean his wounds and administer emergency treatment. Within 30 minutes, Diana found him a sponsor and he was transferred to another clinic where he is receiving ongoing treatment.
Unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries some days later.
Thank you to Amjad, the staff at Al Buraq clinic and the Association for their help in rescuing this puppy.

Diana’s relative Arlette Qarraa was walking her dog this evening. She passed by a large dumpster when she heard a the faint voice of a puppy. Her dog sensed the pup and tried to jump into the dumpster. Arlette tried to search for the dog, she couldn't find him and could no longer hear its voice. She called Diana who called Issa Khalilieh, a member of our board, to come by and help. He brought a stick and gloves to search in the dumpster. They searched the entire contents to no avail. Arlette noticed a sealed container among the contents, and they opened it. Sure enough, they found a small puppy. He was immediately taken to the vet as he had been deprived of oxygen.
Had Arlette and her dog not been walking past, this poor little guy would have wound up in a trash compactor. How someone could be so cruel is beyond us.
Thank you to Arlette and Issa for saving him.
He received a clean bill of health from the vet. We have named him Liam. Due to overcrowding at the shelter, Liam is currently staying in our office. He desperately needs a loving foster or forever home. Please call +972 50-866-6582.

One evening, three weeks ago somebody called Diana telling how he saw a nursing mother in a poison-induced seizure. Nearby were her 5 nursing puppies about a week old. Under the impression that the mother is too far-gone, he left her and took her puppies home.
Diana told the caller to go and find a vet and bring them to the mother to save her. The caller did so and a vet from Al-Buraq clinic administered life-saving injections to the mother dog, and then transported her to his clinic. Thankfully, the mother dog survived.
Due to limited space at our shelter, the mother and her litter were sent to Dr. Mohammed Rajii’s clinic for 10 days. Four of the puppies died, likely due to insufficient milk from their mother. Only one puppy remains.
We have managed to squeeze the two of them into the office but this is not ideal. Both the mother dog and her surviving puppy urgently require a safe and nurturing foster home until they can be adopted. Please call +972 50-866-6582.
Thank you Dr. Rajii, @alburaq and the well-intentioned caller.

Way back in April 2024, Diana saw this dog wandering the streets of Beit Jala limping and showing early signs of mange, in addition she was weak and thin. Diana and a friend tried several times to find and catch her. One of our board members, Issa Khalilieh came to help. Despite her weakness, she kept running away.
Diana left her contact details with locals in the area where the dog was known to frequent. Many people reported sightings of this dog to Diana. When a friend reported a sighting 3 weeks ago, her condition had clearly deteriorated: she had lost part of her leg, and the mange had taken over. This friend followed her but couldn't catch her.
Three days later someone else from Beit Jala saw her and followed her to a field where she sleeps. Majd Muhraiz called Diana who instructed him to stay and watch over her at a distance. Diana then arranged for our workers, Amjad and Sulaiman, to bring a big fence, crate, catching stick, muzzle and ropes.
Once they managed to place her in the crate, the dog was sent to Al Buraq Veterinary clinic. The next day we found her a sponsor, Maisa Salouti, who sent Mariana, a pet taxi driver, to transfer her to another vet. She is now on the long road to recovery.
Thank you to Majd, Amjad and Sulaiman for their time, effort and patience. We are also grateful to Issa and the many people of Beit Jala who notified Diana when they saw this dog; Maisa; Mariana; and the staff at Al Buraq.
10 days later we received an update that she is well and slowly progressing towards recovery under the care of Maisa Salouti.

Our friend Ramzi Asali encountered a stray cat on two separate occasions. During his second encounter, the cat appeared to be in critical condition: severely dehydrated, with a bleeding mouth. Concerned, Ramzi contacted Diana, and they both worked together to capture the ailing feline. Thankfully, they found the cat still alive, albeit extremely weak. They immediately rushed the cat to Dr. Mohammad Rajii for emergency treatment. The cat is currently hospitalized and receiving fluids, antibiotics, and supportive care. While dental treatment is planned for the future, the priority now is stabilizing the cat's condition. We hope for a full recovery. He desperately needs a loving foster or forever home. Please call +972 50-866-6582.

Two male puppies were sitting near a store in a crowded area in Bethlehem. The owner of the shop called Diana. He put them in a box, took them in his shop and waited until Diana sent a taxi to take them to al Buraq Veterinary clinic. They were checked, got treatment for fleas and worms then were sent to the shelter.
Thank you to the shopkeeper and the staff at Al-Buraq for helping rescue these two pups.
We have named them Finlay and Gregor. They are approximately 3 months old and need foster or forever homes. Please call +972 50-866-6582.

🎈🎈 This female puppy was found in a box next to a dumpster in Bethlehem. She was scared helpless could not move. Diana sent a taxi and brought her to the vet Al Buraq. She was checked, treated for fleas and worms. She was vaccinated and placed under the heater in the office of our shelter.
Thank you to the person who reported her to Diana and the staff at Alburaq clinic.
We named her Orla. She was approximately 2 months old.
Unfortunately, she died 2 weeks later from parvo. We take solace in knowing that she died in the warmth of our shelter instead of alone on the cold streets.

Poisoned mother with 8 puppies from Beit Jala
***EMERGENCY FOSTER NEEDED: This mother is recovering from a poisoning attempt. There is NO space at the shelter for her and her 8 puppies when she is discharged from the clinic. ***
Yesterday at around noon time, somebody saw a dog was in seizures dying from poisoning and her breathing was fading. She has 8 nursing puppies hiding in small yet deep cave nearby.
They called Diana, who sent our worker, Sulaiman, via taxi to take her to the vet where she received emergency treatment.
Then, he returned with our other worker, Amjad, to retrieve the puppies. Unfortunately, they were only able to collect 5 of them. They used tools but the cave is just too deep and narrow. Sulaiman and Amjad left food and water for the remaining 3 puppies and will try again today.
The mother was still weak a listless but when Diana asked the vet to place her puppies next to her, she felt her puppies and began to lift her head.
They desperately need a home where mom can recover and still nurse her pups. Please consider fostering by calling +972 50-866-6582.

Luli (formerly known as ‘Shiralee’- https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18xWYqJ7UV/) was rescued in April 2024. She was with her siblings in Beit Jala when a lady saw her with a problem with her front leg. Friend of the shelter, Neta, found her a foster home. At around six months old, walking became more difficult for Luli. Neta reached out to a clinic which sourced an orthopaedic leg for her. They will perform the operation which involved amputating the entire leg, costing 4500 nis. Thankfully, Neta organised a successful fundraising campaign and Luli received the operation. She was in pain for the first week afterwards, but now she is much better and walks more easily. We are eternally grateful to Neta for her hard work in fundraising and finding Luli the best possible foster home; the clinic who performed the operation; and the foster is a family who really love Luli and have taken excellent care of her.

❤❤ Jack has been adopted Jack was found as a young puppy, all alone and crying. He got his name from the foster family we quickly found for him. They wanted to adopt him but the father decided that the family does not need a dog and returned Jack to the shelter. This was September last year. Since then he has grown into a beautiful dog. Our volunteer, Thomas Trischler, recently visited the shelter with his friends, Tom and Daniel, to walk the dogs. Whilst there, Thomas sent pictures of our shelter dogs to his friends who were interested in adopting a dog. Out of all of the pictures, these friends chose Jack. Already fixed, chipped, vaccinated, Jack was ready straightaway. Thomas drove him in his car to his new family Tessa and her husband. Thank you, Thomas, for finding a loving home for Jack and bringing him there; and for your continued involvement in brightening the days of our shelter dogs with your regular visits. If you would also like to walk our shelter dogs, please email aea.bethlehem@gmail.com
