April 2025 Summary

__________________________________________________________________________________

🥳 We recently had the privilege of hosting the wonderful team from Notpfote Animal Rescue in Germany! 🥳

This incredible organization rescues animals from war-torn countries, and before visiting us, they were bravely saving dogs and cats in Ukraine.

Their manager, Babette, and her husband, Tom, came to see our work firsthand on April 12th. Our amazing volunteer Thomas Tischler (who kindly connected with them in German!) and Diana were with them during their visit. They spent their first night at Diana's and three nights at a hotel.

Babette and Tom were deeply moved by the dedication they witnessed here and the harsh realities faced by street animals. We're so thrilled that they promised to support us financially and by taking some of our precious dogs to new homes!

While they were with us in Bethlehem, we were able to rescue even more animals! We also had a lovely dinner with some of our board members to share our mission.

This connection with Notpfote Animal Rescue holds so much promise for the future of the animals we strive to help. Thank you, Babette and Tom, for your inspiring work and your commitment to making a difference!

✈🎊Tiger & Zelda, two of the shelter's longest-term residents, have found their second chance!🎊✈

Huge thanks to Neta and Charlotte for coordinating with Ruth to escort them to the USA. SPCA International  generously funded part of their journey, sending funds to Ilana Strubel for their unexpected but necessary boarding and vaccinations at The ARK at JFK OASIS (shoutout to their amazing manager Brunelle!).

Limor worked her travel-agent-magic on all the necessary paperwork. Ilana stayed in close touch with JFK, ensuring they were well. After a night and day layover, our wonderful volunteer Melissa drove them to the airport and got them on their way to Los Angeles!

They're now relaxing at a foster boarding place for a week at Angela's ranch before heading next Monday to San Francisco to their forever home with Lorette (who will foster Tiger and adopt Zelda!). These two are already comforting each other and are so much happier together.

Massive thanks to Network for Animals for their generous donations towards crates, tickets, and other essentials. Ilana and Melissa went above and beyond, personally covering ticket costs, JFK boarding, transport, and pension.

This incredible rescue truly shows the power of collaboration! Thank you to everyone involved: Charlotte, Neta, Limor, Ilana Strubel, Melissa, Angela , Network for Animals, SPCAI, The ARK at JFK, their amazing foster, and their soon-to-be adopter Lorette!

Special shoutouts to our amazing flight volunteer Ruth for Tiger and Zelda and our incredible ground agent Charlotte Charlie

Zelda's story is typical the dogs living in the shelter, in that she entered as a small pup and never left. Diana found and rescued Zelda in 2022 when she was a 4 months old, hiding in a hole next to a construction area. Despite her rough start, Zelda grew up to be playful and affectionate, an ideal companion dog. Yet for years she was overlooked. So when the opportunity for a forever home in California arose, Zelda was a natural choice.

Tiger's story is more complex. Tiger was born around 2014. He came to the shelter at 3-years-old, having been a shepherd dog until then. Tiger came from an abusive home; his ears were missing and there was a large gash in his back that required treatment.

Tiger did not leave the shelter again until 2019, when he went to a foster home for 18 months.

Initially, Tiger was timid and not used to city noise. Soon he came out of his shell and transformed into a big puppy, being very affectionate and enjoying his cuddles.

But after this point, Tiger’s growth in overall confidence coincided with the re-emergence of the food-guarding behaviour and his foster's lifestyle (long working hours and roommates) no longer fit Tiger's needs.

At 11 years old, Tiger has entered old age. He was sad and confused for the first few months after he was returned to the shelter. But he still remembered basic commands  quickly fell back into his guardian role.

Our hearts ached at the thought of Tiger spending his final years in a shelter. After searching for years, no one wanted a big guy with food-guarding challenges. But our boy got his second chance! We're absolutely over the moon! ❤️

Our shelter is bursting with amazing dogs like Tiger & Zelda who desperately need homes! They're all available for international adoption and waiting to meet you on our 'Meet our Dogs' page.

✈🎊 Follow the amazing journey of Hummus and Ivy!  🎊✈

🧶🐟 These two special cats have finally arrived at their forever hopeful destination: King Street Cats  sanctuary, run by the wonderful Patricia!

Hummus, a resilient street cat who's overcome so much and receives daily care for his eyes, and Ivy, a brave little kitten rescued years ago from a tough situation and now thriving (despite having no teeth!), embarked on a life-changing trip last Thursday.

This incredible journey from our care to Alexandria, Virginia, was made possible by the extraordinary kindness of so many. Thank you to Network for Animals for their vital fundraising, SPCA International  for their invaluable support, Ilana Strubel and Melissa Sobolewski for their incredible organization and generosity, and especially to the angels on their flight: Anne Dreyer, her husband, and daughter, who opened their hearts and their plane tickets, providing loving care every step of the way and personally delivering them to Kingstreet Cats.

They are now safe, loved, and one step closer to their forever homes. 🐟 🧶

 Happy tails for Orisis!

A huge shoutout to our wonderful volunteer, Thomas Trischler, for helping this sweet boy find an amazing foster home! Rescued from the streets of Bethlehem a year ago after being sadly dumped, Orisis is a beautiful and friendly dog who deserves all the love. After a pampering spa day, he went to his foster home with Thomas, and we're thrilled to hear he's settling in purr-fectly with the family and even their cat! Fingers crossed for a forever adoption!  Thank you, Thomas, and thank you to Orisis's fantastic foster family!

💛 A scared, tick-covered puppy was found by one of our volunteers 💛

They and Diana worked together to corner him. Then our worker, Ahmad, stepped in to safely bring him to the clinic. He's now tick-free, healthy, and vaccinated, thanks to our rescuers and the amazing vet care puppy received.

🍁🍁🍁 A heartwarming rescue from Hebron! 🍁🍁🍁

Our friend Hiba Abu Zarour, who tirelessly helps animals, discovered a small puppy tucked away under a container with her nephew. Remarkably, the puppy only responded to Hiba's nephew, who had been providing him with food and care. Hiba contacted Diana for guidance, and we arranged for the puppy to be transported to Al Buraq clinic. After a check-up, he was given a clean bill of health and is now safe and sound at our shelter.

Remember the three little pups we rescued from that cave last month? 🎉

They've come so far! After treatment, vaccinations, and lots of love, they found their forever home through a wonderful association. And guess what? We sent them off with a fourth furry friend! ❤️ Huge thanks to Ahlam Kando for alerting us to their plight, Samia Shahin for her incredible care of so many dogs (including one we took in!), and our amazing Natalie for driving them to their new beginnings.

💗📦 This little one was found alone and crying, missing his mum 📦💗

Thankfully, our friend Hani Diek stepped in! He safely transported the puppy to Al Buraq Veterinary, where he was checked out and found to be healthy. Now, he's at our shelter, hoping for a warm and loving home. Could that be yours? Call +972 50-866-6582 to foster or adopt.

This sweet little guy was found in El Khader, his back legs deformed and dragging on the ground.

Shadia Issa, who found him, contacted Diana, and we rushed him to Al Buraq. Sadly, surgery wasn't an option due to a birth defect. Other vets suggested euthanasia, but Diana wasn’t ready to give up. 😔 Thankfully, our incredible friend Rahmah in Ramallah stepped up! She took him in today, gave him a much-needed bath, and is giving him the care he deserves. This amazing woman also cares for 9 blind cats! 🥺 We are so grateful for her big heart. Please keep this little kitten and Rahmah in your thoughts.

🐈 Imagine leaving 20+ cats behind, knowing they rely on you.

That's exactly what happened in Beit Sahour. A doctor, now emigrated, abandoned the cats he was sheltering on his terrace. His family then callously kicked them out. 💔

When informed of the situation, he refused to provide any financial assistance. Our amazing friend is struggling to feed and shelter them. Diana has been a true hero, finding homes for a mother and her kittens, and arranging foster care for two more. But many more still need help. These cats deserve a second chance! Please share and consider fostering or adopting. Call +972 50-866-6582 for more details.

This beautiful border collie mixed dog used to roam the neighbourhood near the shelter

Sadly, she and her sister were dumped by owners of a puppy mill (we rescued her sister and her pups last year!). This sweet girl was recently hit by a car near our shelter. Thankfully, a kind person called Diana, and our amazing Sulaiman brought her in. Vet Ahmad Abu Dayyeh discovered she's pregnant AND has a pelvis fracture. 💔 But there's a silver lining! We found an incredible Association that has agreed to sponsor her treatment! ❤️ We're so relieved she's in good hands and is getting the care she needs.

Not 2 days later, she gave birth to 2 puppies via caesarean section (See second video below). One had died in an accident previous and was starting to decompose. The other is alive and being cared for with his mum.

Thank you to the kind person who initially reported the dog to Diana, Dr. Abu Dayyeh and the Association for helping to rescue our beautiful border collie mum and her pup.

🐾🧶While showing our shelter to our Babette & Tom from Notpfote, Diana spotted tiny lives in danger! 🥺

Underneath a skip bin on a busy, hazardous road, with no food or water, were these precious babies. We rescued 5 little ones in total, including these two adorable kittens. They are incredibly friendly, suggesting they were sadly abandoned. They are now safe with us, but they desperately need foster homes to thrive! Can you open your heart and home to these sweet souls? Please contact +972 50-866-6582 if you can help! 🧶🐾

💗 This brave little kitty was found in Nablus. Initial treatment at Royal Care Vet HOSPITAL found that she has a broken pelvis. She's continuing her recovery with cage rest and supervision at the Jenin clinic until she can walk again. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Mohammad Abu Rub for his incredible work, and to Animalheroes.eu  for their vital support of the Jenin clinic.🙏💗

(TW: GRAPHIC CONTENT)  A week ago, this poor soul was the victim of a hit-and-run in Tulkarem

He was left with devastating injuries: a fractured jaw and irreparable damage to one eye, with the other badly injured. Our friend, Alaa Balawi, stepped up to give him a chance. After initial assessment, he was rushed to the Jenin clinic where he underwent surgery to remove the unsalvageable eye and repair his jaw. He now faces a long road to recovery under the dedicated care of the clinic. We are deeply thankful to Alaa for his compassion, to Dr. Mohammad Abu Rub for his expertise, and to Animalheroes.eu  for their crucial support of the Jenin clinic, making rescues like this possible. Please keep this brave cat in your thoughts as he heals.

Look at these two sweethearts!  The puppy with the white markings is a boy, and the brown one is a girl. Interestingly, it seems they might be from different litters, but their bond is clear. They were found by a kind soul in Beit Sahour, huddled together for comfort in a trash hole. We're so glad they're now safe at Al Buraq Veterinary Clinic, where they've been checked over, cleaned up (bye-bye ticks!), and have received their deworming treatment and first vaccinations. Let's hope they find loving forever homes soon!

(TW: BLOOD) This sweet boy was found in Al Khader Village near Bethlehem by the kind Shadia Issa in terrible condition

He was bleeding from his nose and mouth and unable to stand. We immediately arranged a taxi to get him to Al Buraq Veterinary Clinic. X-rays revealed a broken jaw and internal bleeding in his lungs, and he has significant bruising on his eyes and face. He received urgent treatment, and thanks to a compassionate sponsor, he's now at an association's clinic receiving ongoing care. Sadly, his injuries appear to be the result of severe beating, not a car accident.  We're heartbroken by his suffering but grateful he's now safe and getting the help he desperately needs.

Meet this gorgeous husky who was sadly found tied to a tree just outside the shelter.

Despite this awful start, she's incredibly calm and loves being around people. Our vet check confirmed she's already fixed. We're now giving her the love and care she deserves. Let's find this sweet girl the loving forever home she deserves! ❤️ If you're interested in fostering or adopting, please call +972 50-866-6582.
